5 Signs That It’s Time to De-Clutter Your Wardrobe

A great way to start the new year fresh and organised and to eliminate any physical and mental clutter is by going through and culling & organising your wardrobe.
Your wardrobe doesn’t have to feel stressful & overwhelmed. You should be feeling amazing, have a clearer mind, stress-free, and easier to get ready for work in the new year.

I speak with so many clients that say the same thing; ‘ I always find it difficult to find something to wear of a morning and find myself changing a few times before choosing to go with one of the 3 go-to on rotation outfits because I know it works, but I feel frustrated every time because I can’t seem to find anything else to wear.

Also a lot of the time, people don’t allocate enough time set aside to actually do a wardrobe cull on their own. There’s always an excuse to not spend more time on it, but in reality it is so rewarding when you accomplish a thorough clean out, it’s like a mini challenge to set yourself, and ‘Yes’ you can do it if you put your mind to it!

If you feel that you’re in a similar position, then now is the time to go through your wardrobe and see what’s not working and understanding what’s holding you back from having an amazing wardrobe that styles all beautifully together.

Here are the top 5 signs that it’s time to de-clutter your wardrobe…

1. You have negative feelings & emotions when trying things on in your wardrobe.

If you are feeling any of these emotions when getting ready including; overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, guilty, shameful, depressed, bored, annoyed, sad, angry or frustrated then they are a BIG sign that it’s time to re-asses those pieces that are taking a toll on your mental state. Your wardrobe doesn’t have to feel stressful & overwhelmed. You should be feeling amazing about your wardrobe space every day.

2. You keep holding onto items thinking to yourself ‘I will fit into these items one day…’

When you hold onto pieces that no longer fit, you are only making excuses to hold onto past times when the item fit. If you find that you fluctuate constantly between sizes within the time frame of 3 months, then it’s understandable, but if the items have been sitting in there for longer than a year, then it’s time to go.

3. You’re late to work, appointments or events because you don’t know what to wear.

Being ready on time can be difficult, especially if you have a wardrobe full of pieces that don’t always seem to work, trying on so many different outfits, and not only being late everyday, but it will put you in a tense or stressful mood to start your day or evening which doesn’t always reflect well when engaging or meeting with people. It’s surprising that we overlook just how much our wardrobe effects our mental state.

4. You struggle to locate items in your wardrobe because it’s so full you can’t see where everything is.

This is a big sign that you need to categorise and colour coordinate your sections to make it easier to locate everything as well as culling your pieces to make more space to view everything.

5. You are only wearing 20% of your wardrobe 80% of the time.

If only 20% of your pieces are getting worn, that is a definite reminder that A. You either need some time to create more outfits using your current pieces and B. You need to cull. There is a reason why you aren’t touching those items that still have tags on.
